Company Profile

Where it Began

Headquartered in Athol, MA, in the heart of New England, where manufacturing began and evolved into what it is today, Starrett has a history and reputation so rich and solid that the words "quality" and "Starrett" are virtually synonymous.

The company employs about 2,000 people worldwide, with many based in the Athol plant, where it is not uncommon to see devoted generations of toolmakers with 30 or more years of experience. Starrett is the last remaining full line precision tool company to be proudly manufacturing their products within the U.S.A.

Thousands of Precision Tools, Gages and Instruments

The broad Starrett product line includes precision tools (micrometers, calipers, rules, etc.), tape measures, levels, electronic gages, dial indicators, gage blocks, granite surface plates, optical measuring projectors, vision systems, vises, M1 lubricant, and precision ground flat stock. Much of the Company's production is concentrated in hand measuring tools and precision instruments that many manufacturing companies, from small machine shops to Fortune 500 firms, buy for the use of their employees.

For over 125 years, The L. S. Starrett Company has manufactured the world's finest quality tools and  precision measuring equipment.

More recently, we have earned a reputation as the premier manufacturer of optical comparators and related products.

Optical measurement is a non-contact technique that graphically displays and measures parts with dimensions and shapes that would be hard to measure with regular tools.

The heart of these systems are precision optics, superb lighting and a highly accurate work stage. They combine to ensure bright, sharp images and exceptional accuracy.

Generally, horizontal models work well with parts that need to be fixtured, held in a vise, or on centers. Vertical models provide comparable accuracy and are ideal for parts that are placed on the glass insert of the work stage.
Vertical systems work well when the parts to be measured are flexible or soft (i.e., plastic, thin stampings or electrical components).

The versatile Starrett line includes optical systems from 12-30” (300-750mm) screen diameters, horizontal and vertical models and a wide range of special machines.

We offer choices of lens magnification, manual, motor-driven and CNC work stage travel, and with mechanical or electronic readouts.

Technological Expertise & Broad Product Range

With the unbeatable combination of precision mechanics, powerful and intuitive software, and support from the most respected name in measurement, Starrett Kinemetric's Galileo Vision Systems take camera-based measuring systems to the next level.
